from "Doing a Job" to "Living a Mission"
This article is inspired by a mail from Robin Sharma and the mail made me THINK!...
Honestly speaking we all in some way or the other have done some great contributions in our lives, contributions and acts which have affected at least one person (or many). Don’t we all wish our those contributions or acts to be remembered for life times…? Actually we can all be immortals… Yes WE CAN BE IMMORTALS
Let me begin with a beautiful aphorism, Hana wa hiraku bankoku no haru, from Moon by the Window by Shodo Harada Roshi:
“A single flower blooms and throughout the world it’s spring. In Zen, the word flower often refers to the Buddha, who is said to have been born under flowers, to have become enlightened under flowers, to have transmitted the Dharma with a flower, and to have passed away under flowers.
“When the Buddha was enlightened under the bodhi tree, he saw the morning star and exclaimed, “How wondrous! How wondrous! All beings from the origin are endowed with this same bright clear Mind to which I have just awakened!” For forty-nine years the Buddha taught that each and every person has the possibility of awakening and that this opportunity to awaken is the deepest value of being alive…
“We too can be born and can die under flowers, can finish this life as the Buddha did.”
A dominant belief of our culture is that immortality is impossible. And yet, look at Shakespeare and Mozart. Tesla and Salk. Marcus Aurelius and Kurt Cobain.
Each of us, every day, through the jobs we do are offered a shot at greatness, an opportunity to reach immortality.
As we produce work that becomes pure poetry, we impact and influence our teammates, we wow our suppliers, we inspire customers and strangers. And we lead our industry.
And once we make this our operating system, we begin to live on in the lives that we are blessed to touch.
Do this daily, and you'll create a tsunami of contribution. Continue it for a lifetime and your Body of Work will remain, long after you're gone.
If you're ready to leap from "doing a job" to "living a mission", definitely make the time worth watching for others.
Let it be. Let us see. Simply, let it Zen.
